Introduction to Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE)

The intent of this resource is to provide a Launchpad for uptake of the Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE) by NZDF. Here you will find links and resources required to enable learning of and employment of DATE for both Individual and Collective Training.
DATE is a library of  regional Operating Environments, which replicate the environment and REDFOR, associated with the actual regions. The NZDF will primarily utilise DATE Indo-Pacific (DATE-IP).

For a more in depth understanding of what DATE is, follow link below.

Individual Training

This resource is to be utilised for individual training. The Primary operating environment (OE) and scenario to be utilised for individual training are DATE-IP and Op SWIFT DEFENDER respectively.

Op SWIFT DEFENDER was created in 2023 to replace the LOTC Operational Scenario (LOUISVOA). It has been designed to enable individual training in a joint environment utilising the Decisive Action Training Environment-Indo Pacific (DATE-IP) Operating Environment (OE). Op SWIFT DEFENDER sees NZ operating as part of an ANZAC Division supported by elms of the SOUTH TORBIAN army against a NORTH TORBIAN adversary fighting in SOUTH TORBIA. Further background information on Op SWIFT DEFENDER can be found in the Op SWIFT DEFENDER Implementation Guide.

All these documents are a work in progress if you have any feedback regarding OP SWIFT DEFENDER please refer to MCTC TACTICAL SCHOOL.

Collective Training

This is the resource for Collective training. The Primary operating environment and scenario to be utilised for collective training are DATE-IP and Operation STEEL SENTINEL respectively. A point to note is that Op STEEL SENTINEL has not been formally re-written for NZDF at this time with this work due for completion in 2025. The NZDF draft will be based on Op STEEL SENTINEL in much the same was as Op SWIFT DEFENDER is based on Op BRONZE ACHILLES. Due to the requirement for implementation of DATE-IP for collective training in 2024 the decision has been made to utilise Op STEEL SENTINEL in it’s current form as a start point for activity scenario writing. Planners are not required to use the North Torbian Marine Expeditionary Force currently incorporated into Op STEEL SENTINEL. This OPFOR can be replaced by either the heavy, medium or light ORBATs contained in Part 2 of the new REDFOR Battle Book as required.
